Good morning, Friend,
I had a brief (couple of minutes) but interesting chat with a stranger in a local restaurant this morning. He was wearing a T-shirt that said, "Have a good day on your journey today." I said to him, "I like your T-shirt but I'd like to add a couple words to what it says." He said, "What would you add?" I told him I'd like it to say, "Have a good day on your journey with Jesus today." I further said that's the best way to guarantee a good day. Then he said to me, "I wouldn't want to narrow it to Jesus. I believe that all roads lead to God." I said to him, "If all roads lead to God, why did Jesus go to the bother and pain of death on the cross?" I added, "Think about that." He said, "I'll do that." I think he will think about it. I pray that he will.
The Bible insists that Jesus is the ONE and ONLY way to God.
- In John 14:6, Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
- In Acts 4:12, Peter's sermon included these words: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
- In Philippians 2:9-11, Paul wrote, "God exalted [Jesus] to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
- In Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah wrote (about 800 years before the birth of Jesus on earth) that Jesus will be called the "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Timothy Keller, in his excellent book Making Sense of God, writes a scholarly and convincing argument about the uniqueness of Christ, the relevance of Christ, and the universality of Christ. Wherever the message of Christ is proclaimed, many turn to Him and receive Him as the true revelation of God the Father.
While it is true that many religious leaders teach that all religions are equal, growth within Christianity continues to prosper. Thousands of people are receiving Christ daily throughout the world.
For two thousand years, Jesus has been preached throughout the world. His message has been heard and received on every inhabited continent. Millions have turned from other religious systems and embraced Jesus as Lord and Savior.
It's been my privilege to have traveled in over 135 countries around the world. I have preached in many of them. I've heard the testimony of many who have been transformed by hearing and receiving the message of Christ.
Today I salute pastors and missionaries who boldly preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of them are ministering in difficult places. Persecution is on the rise. Please join with me in praying for these faithful messengers. Join me also in encouraging them. As a little boy, I learned these words from a song. I still sing them.
It will be worth it all when we see Jesus.
Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ.
One glimpse of His dear face, all sorrow will erase.
So bravely run the race ‘til we see Christ.
