Encouragement Letters
One of the joys of being a Christian is helping another person come into a personal relationship with Jesus. I've often had this joy. As a young man, I looked forward to leading others to Christ. As a pastor, I still wanted all the help I could find to make me more effective in leading others to Christ. As a pastor I enrolled in two of the most effective evangelistic training programs . . .
-
THE FOUR SPIRITUAL LAWS, developed by the late Bill Bright, founder and past president of Campus Crusade for Christ. I took the course at Arrowhead Springs, California.
-
EVANGELISM EXPLOSION, developed by James Kennedy, pastor of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My personal trainer was Kennedy's personal secretary.
As a young pastor, I asked God to give me a continuing practice of introducing people to Jesus. I remember promising God that no matter how prominent I might become in ministry, I didn't want to grow away from personal evangelism.
Just a couple weeks ago, I again had the privilege of introducing a man to Christ. Before I shared Christ with him, we were talking to become better acquainted with each other. He made it easy for me. I quote him exactly. He said, I feel so lost. About thirty minutes later, he affirmed that he now knew Jesus was in his life.
After sharing Christ with him, I told him that if he asked Jesus into his life, immediately several things would happen:
-
Jesus would take up residence in him. Jesus makes that promise in Revelation 3:20 when He says . . . If you ask me to come into your life, I will do it. After my friend invited Jesus into his life, I asked him, "where is Jesus now?" He said . . . He's in here, I know He is, because He said He would do it.
-
When anyone receives Jesus, his name is recorded in heaven in the Lamb's Book of life. Heaven is your home now . . .. always heading in that direction.
-
When Jesus comes into a life, the individual can have immediate and continuing assurance that at the time of death, for sure, he will go to be with the Lord in His heaven.
-
All of one's sins are forgiven. Not only forgiven by God, but also forgotten by God; Jesus paid for our sins by His death at the cross.
-
When Jesus is in a life, He enables one to begin to be what God had always wanted him to be. Jesus' strength is imparted to us . . . not strength to allow us to do anything we want to do but strength to enable us to be what He wants us to be . . . to become what He wants us to become . . . to do what He wants us to do.
For some time I've wanted to simply share this with you. Perhaps you have needed this nudge to share Christ . . . even to look for opportunities to do so . . . and to give them the immediate assurance that God is at work in his life. Life will be fundamentally new and different from now on.
